Fill my basket! Community Region Project.
Modified By Sakai Openlife on 6/11/2008 5:28:34 PM)

Fill My Basket!

OK.

We're looking at the new updated region code, and it appears we can effectively have the 'freebie' in operation now, and we have community regions... So, thinking about community regions how would this fly...

We use a community region cut it up, hand out portions that are assigned to volunteers and leave portions with anyone rez access.

The handed out portions are used for building paths, scenery etc etc.

The anyone build portions are used as 'freebie' lots, for pple to drop their creations there for anyone to 'take a copy'.

OK. There's probably a few flaws to this, but perhaps it would be a good start? Any ideas?

Throw ur 2 cents in or volunteer if this interests you. Ideally it would be good to have the region up and running with scenery inplace and freebie dropping going on within 2 weeks.

Will the volunteers have the ability to delete/return inappropriate stuff some clueless people will inevitably drop in those freebie areas?

Will there be a theme to those community regions so that we don't endup with disjointed and chaotic mish-mash of styles?

As soon as more than one resident occupy a space, you need some rules... human nature.

edit: Sorry if I sounded kinda harsh, not my intent. I'm all for volunteer work for those kind of projects, but success can only be obtained through planification...

I'll be glad to help too.   Not everything I build has to be "big"  :)

Re: Fill my basket! Community Region Project.

Well I gues the first things that need to be though out here are what kind of style should the region take on.

I was hoping to assign a region with a fairly unique terrain (ie far from flat).

Styles-> Was thinking something perhaps a little 'inner urban'/ 'semi industrial'.

Which is a genre we really don't see much of in the grid so far....

Any thoughts?

Re: Fill my basket! Community Region Project.

I have time to give to a scheme like this. I'd love to take part, sounds good.

when i read 'inner urban' & 'semi-industrial'    I thought of Freebies.... and then thought of a Homeless shelter... in the midst of some ex-industrial complex

But then again... I have just consumed a few mugs of red wine.

Re: Fill my basket! Community Region Project.

I  own and have developed a cluster of SL Regions to varied success. I have found that "theme" does indeed work and is not only possible, but prove successful to divide a region into four interconnected segments of similar environment.

Assuming intercity, semi-industrial as the general theme, this concept could easily wrap an entire region in a spiral transformation beginning in the center with your low level industry, then winding outward to a more tranquil environment.

Once the infrastructure is decided, for example transportation, boundaries such as rivers, and segment focus,  the actual build would be most entertaining to watch as it developed from four various builders concept.

I think the idea is brilliant and so far, to the best of my knowledge, never  accomplished in a single region. I welcome the opportunity if I am a part of it or not.

Re: Fill my basket! Community Region Project.

We have a region!

As you can see it was still quite early in the morning for me, the fog hadn't even lifted yet!

More information to follow soon.

Where is Pawpaw? West Coast inland by about 1 region. Only a couple regions from Borne.

More information to follow shortly.

Re: Fill my basket! Community Region Project.

I still am interested.... Hoping for stable connection after these latest updates to free up some weekend building time....

I am around all this coming weekend, would be great to at least get some chit chat going in world on this. even if it's only a few folk

I guess folk will come more easily to a project that has begun... so Perhaps Sakai can lay the first Prim on a nice comunity concept build pretty soon?? hope so.

Regards

Blindboy

OK we need a time of the week for everyone to meet to get this going.

Anyone feel like putting forward a date/time?

Re: Fill my basket! Community Region Project.

Hi all,

I'd be glad to participate to this project :)

The only thing is that it shall not be easy for a date in sim as we all live in different time zones...

Something else, I already have in my basket a set of pretty beach stores that could have been used for storing freebies... near a beach :s

Or else a kind of glass store...

Re: Fill my basket! Community Region Project.

I would like to make some comments here and I hope nobody will take them personally or the wrong way.

I have observed that everytime a group project is proposed, efforts are made to meet inworld to discuss plans. I find it is a lost cause to proceed this way when everyone knows that time differences makes this almost impossible. The best tool for gathering ideas for a group project is this forum. Just post your ideas and proposals, carry a group vote on which direction to go on and proceed. So much time is lost trying to get everyone together at one place and one time...

Just give a deadline for proposal, post them in these forums and then decide through a vote.

My 2 cents...

Re: Fill my basket! Community Region Project.
I have to agree with Pratyeka. Trying to get people in one place at one time from around the globe is nothing short of a monumental task and likely an impossible one. It is hard enough to get 100% participation if everyone is in the same time zone. Putting forth ideas here and assigning tasks from this place would be more feasible and I'd be only too happy to lend a hand. And Pratyeka? if you're reading this, we've finally connected (Marymac Dougall here).

COOL!!! Welcome Mary! It's great to see you made it here. Check out my blog here openlifegrid.com/Main/Blogs/tabid/61/BlogID/14/Default.aspx to see what I had accomplished during my short life as a foundation resident.

Re: Fill my basket! Community Region Project.

I would love to be a part of this project. I have learned a lot from the other metaverse, been heavily involved in the Fantasy SIMs regarding social structure and themed builds.

I agree, it would be quite difficult to get everyone together for a "meeting" but a meeting of minds can be accomplished.

Test builds would give a good sense of prim use and styles. Textures can be tried out. Realistic vs. stylized, photo or Photoshop/Filter Forge...

Stepford had a great idea as to how to lay out the build, yeah go back and re-read that post. LOL We just have to go to the site often and spend time there when we have time in-world, eventually we will all get to know each other, and the ideas will grow. Notecards, Forum, test builds, snapshots are all ways we can be in touch.

Let's do it!

Re: Free Structures now in Pawpaw
Modified By Sakai Openlife on 9/7/2008 7:30:48 AM)

For those that haven't been down to Pawpaw, it's starting to grow!

The region also now has it's first 'free structures' available for you to 'take a copy' and put on your own land!

Feel free to check it out and thankyou to everyone so far for the donations there.

Re: Free Structures now in Pawpaw

We'll try to get a more completed version of the 'Alpha' Cafe in that region too.

So you can have a cuppa and chat with other users.

-> IF anyone has... a nice 'simple' chair with anim for that purpose ith would be so great.

Feel free to drop it in the Free furniture store on the region and we'll make good use of it in the free cafe.

Re: Free Structures now in Pawpaw

Big thankyou for the support so far with the Community Region Pawpaw.

It's great to see the shared work being put to good use around the grid, we hope to get more great structures there for free takeaway.

Also a thankyou to Kylie she's done some great work that's now available too.

*Haven't been there? Pawpaw near the westcoast of the mainland near the inlet at borne.
