A common thing we see in our backend is for some Teleports consistently fail.
One thing worth noting straight away is that for the majority of users Teleports are fine, but for some it's like your avatar's feet are made of concrete!
So what can be done about these concrete shoes?
First let's look at what happens when you teleport to another region and how that might effect your PC's connection.
The Openlife is made of many racks of servers.
Each Region that lives in a server is connected via a particular 'port' to the network.
When you Teleport form the region you are in to another our system will tell your location prepare for liftoff and give your viewer the location of where you're going.
Your viewer will likely get the details of another server and a new port to connect to.
Your viewer will then contact the new server on the given port and say hello I'm Mr.Pixel! Your viewer will then wait for a reply from the region.
(and this is often where the failure will occur...)
The new region will quickly as Openlife Core Services for things like your appearance, inventory, and want to start sending you all the information you need before starting to deliver all those pretty prims and textures that exist in the destination.
-A Common point of failure is a local firewall on your computer will not be prepared in time to make this new connection / or not accept this 'new' server to receive this information from. (remember your connection is travelling too!)
From here it's usually plane sailing, just like your connection to the grid, the region will load and you'll be standing in this new exciting area (without concrete shoes!).
So - If I have concrete shoes and can't teleport around, check your firewalls... for the sake of troubleshooting try disabling a local software firewalls first. If you're part of a bigger network contact your network administrator. Things like NAT can also play havoc on your Teleports as well.
I hope this information was useful, let's loose the concrete shoes!
