Hi All.
I am uncertain what Forum to post this into, so into General it goes.
Today KirstenLee posted Viewer R15.1 which corrected several issues and lightened off the "junk" that was just dead code. Works Great BTW:

I had a couple of ideas / suggestions. and saw nowhere to post them.
- Would it be possible to allow the End User to select which default texture could be applied to a Prim that they Create. I think a selection in the Pef's Menu would be a goog place, they would beed to have the UUID of it in-world. I have a preference as to which Texture I would use, depending on what I am building. It would be a Great TimeSaver and add further enhancement to our abilities.
- Quirk OR Bug: The new package installed very nicely and created an Icon on the desktop (which took time to locate, because it's different) but did not install a Folder or Icons in the Start menu.

Here's a way to have defoult prims at the ready, with whatever texture you want:
1- create a prim
2- put desired default texture on it.
3- name prim with name that will tell you which texture is on it.
4- take prim into inventory, place it in a folder (maybe name that folder (default prims)
5- repeat 1-4 for each desired texture you may have.
To create one of your default prim, just take it from inventory and drop it on the ground.
This way, no need to change a default texture anywhere. just pick the one needed in your inventory.

I did that too and made prims of all the shapes with a graduated texture on them.
I them named them with 01-primtype so they were at the top of my inventory list.
I also;
In the debug settings list (Ctl + SHIFT + Alt + D ) (Then Advanced> Debug) there is a choice of default texture.(somewhere in there)
I tried this months ago but when I changed it, EVERY pine texture inworld changed to black. There was black prims and faces everywhere.
I think I had to remove the dot folder, or settings folder to fix it.

Hey there...
Interesting ideas... but let me point out that there are 215 standard shapes that can currently be created in the viewer tool alone. Some of these shapes are / would be difficult to name, especially some of the Torii. Then let's add the multitude of possible shapes using prim-torture. Sculpties (unlimited) and well a few other possible candidates, such as Micro-Prims (which really need to be coloured something REALLY BRIGHT & BOLD or you lose them... etc.... Can you imagine how "fluffy" the inventory would get, should we all have a library of prims ? I don't even want to consider it, it would be mind boggling ... lol let alone what it would do to the asset servers.
A Simple Menu add-on or a preferences add-on with even maybe the texture picker would do the job quite nicely. While not everyone would use this feature / function right away, I believe that as soon as people realized that this option was available to them, they would use it more & more frequently.
In light of the Major Changes that we are about to have, including full mesh support, the Game of Constructing items in this world is about ot change dramatically.

I dunno where you get 215 "standard shapes" from. If you want to include modding, well it's infinite.
There are only 8 prim types. Cube, cylinder, sphere, prism, tube, torus, ring and sculpty. Of which there are 4 sub-types: Plane, torus, cylinder and sphere.
All other shapes are derivitives of these.
And yes. I can't wait for good mesh support either. Captain of my realm... Rox

Macca, the 215 shapes come from the possible base combo's that you can created with the viewer. (if you have a PrimFinder count them, it contains: Box-24, Cylinder-18, Prizm-19, Ring-19, Sphere-37, Torus-58, Tube-40). Then there are a few more that are not in PrimFinder which can be made with the viewer.
Anyways. User Selectable texture for Default Texture to be used is the Suggestion.
Another thought suggestion for KLee: a switch to disable Texture Preview on Upload. This is especially handy when batching up textures as they fill the screeen in a very unpleasant manner. Texture & Notecard preview can be done in debug settings and menu but this does not affect uploaded textures. WhiteStar Magic

Note CORRECTION to the above link posted.
That was a 15.1 pre-release. If you have that release please change to :

My suggestion for one of the next viewer versions is a 3d-viewer module like there is one in Dale's SL viewer sl.daleglass.net/. It has different 3d viewing options like anaglyph (with red/cyan glasses) or shutter glasses. I tried it out with the anaglyph option and i really like it very much. It's not very useful for building, but to see your building results in "real" 3d, thats very nice....

| Hi Galen the 3D anaglyph mod ( originally posted by a university ) and modded by dale, was patched up against the 1-18 code ( i actually did build one and it worked with some glitches ).
I revisited this code not so long ago and its less than trivial to try to work this into a 1-20 in its current state the difference between the 1-18 viewers and the 1-20's is huge.
I have not forgot about it, but at the moment my time would be better spent elsewhere as this would require alot of time to work into a future R16.
Best regards K |

Ok, here is a simple feature suggestion for the viewer that is absolutely great to have. How about the inventory window gets split into two sections like in windows explorer?

With the Tree-View on the left and files/subfolders on the right? And path and forward-back buttons as a bonus:P That would greatly decrease the cluttered inventory we're all used to. |
