/linux?

I am not a programmer and I am just getting started with toying with a server here for future fun.

Everything seems to be slanted or grounded in M$ and .net. Why is this? I can see a few reasons but would like to know what people working here say.

I am all for choice, but for the most part have found that tools in the Linuxes /Unixes areas to be the most useful for my needs. Will there be future issues with running a standalone on a Linux platform?

No, it's not "All you computer belong to us"  see here:

http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Downloads

linux standalone runs with mono prebuilt.

Working fine here. (Well, fine as can be expected after following the instructions)

Only the REX viewer and sever must be run on MS gear. AFAIK

I need only reboot to use rex and make big prims. After that, I can move and texture but not resize any.

Working towards a red dot. It's all I have for now. [and no, I couldn't just leave]

Re: /linux?

Yes there are a few dependencies for running linux, including Mono (.net alternative for linux), openjpeg & a few others...

Whilst it can run, there are differing degrees of success and it should be noted the developed platform is .net (with mono compatability in mind).
