Important Notes about 3DXStudio Release

Please note 3DX has decided it will not be releasing a new studio version of the 3DXserver software. We have come a logn way since the simple studio releases and due to focus and changes being on the distributed HPC based services methods we run the Openlifegrid Virtual World it is no longer possible for us to convert our present platform to a simple to run studio version.

We will re-address this area with a more specialized studio toolset in future oriented towards creators and designers with direct import export capability.

Although discontinued will keep the old studio download section for your convenience for now.

What is the Openlife Ready to Run Opensim Release?

This is a release considered stable from the opensim source by the Openlifegrid Team, it has the added benefit of an easy to use Simple GUI, and doesn't require any configuration to get started on your local computer.

This means by running the release on your local computer you will have a 3D World Simulator containing a Region ready for connection with a compatible OL viewer.

  • UPDATED Information: Currently the Openlife Ready to run now known as '3DXStudio Edition', is undergoing some pretty major changes. Due to some very heavy development in our 3DXServer (which is used to run the Openlife live world) we do not expect the next release of this popular offline editing studio to arrive until May 09.

How to connect to it ?

Download the Installer Package. Install.

Download the Viewer. Install.

Run the 3DXLauncher from desktop icon or my Programs. Click 'Start' on the first screen. When it's ready it will say ready for avatar connections.

Run the viewer. Choose 'Local' from the drop down menu on the right of the first screen (near your login).

Login using default avatar.

Firstname 'Test'

Lastname 'User'

Password  'Password'

Q. "I can login but as soon as i rezz something
the viewer crashes / freezes.
So i can login, walk or fly around , but as soon as i do
anything else i crash and freeze. "

  A. "a work around is to access your standalone through the OpenSim.32BitLaunch.exe file."

________

  • Q. "how to create a user name other than "Test User" ? Also, how do I create a different password other than the default ?"

    A. "If you are using Vista, first make sure that what I say here is done under Admin, or that your UAC is off. Otherwise, go to your Region folder for 3DX OpenLife:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\3DX OpenlifeGrid\3DXServer Studio Ose\Regions - this is default install path

Copy the default.xml in there and paste it to your desktop and rename it something default - old.xml so you have a back up.

Then open the default.xml in Regions folder with Wordpad or any editor.

You'll need to edit two lines.

    master_avatar_first="Test" master_avatar_last="User"
    master_avatar_pass="password"

    A. "You can also create new avatars for your standalone.
Go to Command View tab in 3DXServer Studio window and type in:

create user (first name) (second name) (password) 1000

1000 will stand for the start region for this new user to log in. It is better to leave it default.

  • Q. How do I use my standalone and viewer on the same PC with no internet connection?

  • A. At this stage the only way is to download the OpenlifeR15.1 Viewer and use it to connect to the standalone via the local option.

"Changing the default.xml doesn't remove Test User, it just adds a new avatar. Test User stays the owner of the root region ... So if you want to change land properties of the root region you need to log in as default user anyway."

Assuming no firewall is blocking, and if VISTA you selected 'Run As administrator' you will now be logged in to your local Studio Edition!

How to allow others to connect to your studio region

Install and setup a local standalone

In OpenSim.ini:

Change all "127.0.0.1" to your server ip

In  Regions\default.xml (will need to do this for any other regions if you have more than one):

    Change internal_ip_address to "0.0.0.0"

Change external_ip_address to your server ip

Assuming no firewall is blocking and any routers are set up correctly, others should be able to connect!

(You may also need to add the following in your OpenSim.ini):

Where [server ip] is your server ip (without brackets):
